Tell me a story about a boy who had wings but couldn’t fly
Why have pie without filling? Why have rain without clouds? Why have wings without flight? A boy stood on the roof of his home and was thinking about these questions. “What good are these wings if I don’t use them?” He asked himself. This seemed to be the only question on his mind for years. He was born with a pair of fluffy white wings stuck on his back. Yet anytime he tried to use them he felt sick. The poor boys body would freeze up and his mind would go blank. He lived at the very top of the apartment building. It would be a long way down, but he was so sure that he was ready to fly. “Fear, yes!” That’s what it is he said. A hint of nervousness could be found in his voice. “The fear of falling is what’s putting a knot in my stomach!” The boy looked down at the city before him. “Do it!” His mind spoke to him. “Jump! Show the world that your wings aren’t just for show!”
He felt a new wave of confidence. He visioned himself soaring around the city and proving to himself he could fly. He jumped off the roof, but he felt the unpleasant feeling of knots in his stomach he flapped his wings, or at least he thought he did. He felt as if the sky was getting taller or the ground was getting closer. He could see the sidewalk closer than he would’ve hoped. Maybe if he closed his eyes he’d find the strength to fly. For years the boy rambled and ranted about his curse. He claimed that he had a pair of useless wings glued to his back. In his attempt to fly his mind was triggered by that insecurity. He tried his best but it wasn’t good enough so he met his fear head on. A woman was walking to her job when she came across his body lying on the ground. She stared at the corpse. She reached for her phone, but stopped to think of how lucky she was to be sane. “I know what is real” she said. “I am normal, he is not.” When the woman pulled out her phone to continue alerting the proper authorities she looked at the time. It was 10:47am and had something very important to do. There was no excuse for being late, so she stepped over the lifeless body and spoke softly to herself. “I am sane, I know what is real and what’s not.”
